Firefly was the next Whedon's hit show, and it's safe to say that she made an impact. The character of Summer Glau's River Tam was a complicated role that Glau did well. In the role of Tam, the character was forced into government experiments that required her to be prepared to become the perfect assassin. Tam's ability to manage emotions was taken away from her. In Firefly Glau was in a position to display not only her acting ability but also her skills in fighting. The training she received as an assassin allowed her the chance to utilize all of her athletic abilities. Summer Glau, a trained classical ballerina. She also has training in flamenco and tango but it was a broken toe which ended her dance career. Firefly was only a single season, but gained an unstoppable fan base. Whedon was so enthralled by it that he returned to the show a few years later. Summer Glau was still getting good work during the time.
